My friends from PEOW studio reproduced this image of mine as a Risograph print, you can buy it at their shop. Only 25 of them available, signed and numbered by me in pencil. Details below.
Two features in Portuguese newspaper O Público:
1. An interview in portuguese about my drawings, recently-directed short films, and Uhlakanyana… 2. A feature collecting some of my work here on Tumblr (so if you’re here no real need to click).
This is a riso print gone wrong. I like it.

I was just reading an interview with Jane Campion about her new TV series ‘Top of The Lake’ and something occurred to me. Something about the format of TV series and graphic novels. How both allow writers to develop the characters, and go deeper into a story, in ways that wouldn’t be possible in a short story or short comic — the extreme example being a newspaper comic strip or a film vignette.
Unlike graphic novels, which are generally harder to consume than comic strips — and this is only my perception — TV series are easier to consume than a long film. The key I guess is serialisation, and the promise of something even more exciting to come.
Made for an animation, this scene is a tilt-down shot — hence the rough change of perspective into a flat style at the bottom half of the image. The ‘camera’ moves down and the perpective adapts to that movement (in an awkward perspective sort of way) until it reaches a totally flat shot of the street facade. The buildings are independent objects that will adapt to the speed of the motion. The image is never seen in its totality.
What I’ll be doing on a friday night? Working on nice work and eating cashews at home in Mozambique. This is a screen cap from an animation pilot I’m working for. It’ll be ready early 2013.

The Fall is a good time to stay in and work, and the result is many nice projects — like the one above — an animation pilot I’m making for Norwegian director and friend Mats Grorud, and which will be produced by TENK.TV. This will be a great project, more on that in the future!
I’m also organizing an anthology of South African comics — I posted something about it on this new tumblr dedicated to the project. The book will be out in a couple of weeks. More about that soon too!
A good weekend to you all Tumblers!
